Our proposal Received a Special Purchase Award in the MTM Debrecen competition
Our proposal received a Special Purchase Award in the competition for the Hungarian Natural History Museum’s Collection Centre in Debrecen
Our entry submitted to the architectural design competition for the new Collection Centre of the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Debrecen was awarded a Special Purchase by the Jury. According to the official justification, the proposal provided an exemplary response to the requirements of the brief through its consistent functional system, sustainability-focused approach and well-considered interior architectural solutions.
The design concept of the proposal was centred on functionality, cost-efficient operation and sustainability. The architectural approach was defined by a rationally organised, compact building mass, a site layout prioritising energy efficiency, and a clearly structured functional arrangement.
The Jury particularly appreciated the building’s clear internal organisational logic, the efficient horizontal arrangement of the collection units, and the direct spatial connections between workspaces, laboratories and research functions and the individual collection areas. The internal circulation system is transparent, with visitor, operational and collection-related functions clearly separated.
While the Jury noted formal critiques regarding the external appearance, it emphasised that these do not affect the quality of the interior spaces. The multi-level entrance hall, generously supplied with natural light, along with the use of glued laminated timber in the interior architecture, creates a balanced, high-quality working environment.
Owing to its well-structured functional system and consistent sustainability-oriented approach, the Jury awarded the proposal a Special Purchase.
