Multifunctional building over the Tunnel

The design for the multifunctional building above the Tunnel was prepared for one of Clark Ádám Square’s distinctive urban situations: the top of the entrance portal of the Castle Hill Tunnel, within a UNESCO World Heritage environment. At the request of the Municipality of Buda Castle, we prepared the building permit design for a multifunctional building, examining the possible reuse of the site based on the precedent of a former hospitality building.

The sensitivity of the design task came from the need to prepare a small-scale intervention in an urban location of exceptional visual importance. In such a prominent setting, the architectural solution must respond at the same time to the historic environment, tourism-related use and the World Heritage cityscape.
