Tatabánya Multifunctional Sports Hall

The Tatabánya Multifunctional Sports Hall is one of the key developments in the city’s sports and event infrastructure. The indoor arena, with a capacity of more than 6,000 spectators, primarily serves the training and competitions of the local handball team, which is also well known internationally. At the same time, its design also allows the facility to host several other sports and large-scale events.

The building is suitable for handball matches, international sporting events and television broadcasts. Its sports functions are further expanded by the adjoining fencing hall, which can accommodate 20 fencing pistes. Thanks to its multifunctional design, the building can also serve as a venue for basketball, futsal, volleyball, tennis, fencing and judo events, as well as concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions and professional expos.

CÉH zRt. was responsible for the general design of the sports hall. During the design process, it was important for the building to meet the requirements of elite sport, public events, media use, operation and flexible space utilisation at the same time. The coordination of telescopic stands, partly connectable spaces and the needs of different sports required complex architectural and engineering solutions.

One of the project’s important technical features is the large-span design of the lightweight roof structure. The largest span is 64.4 metres, enabling the free, large-scale and flexible use of the arena space. During the design process, CÉH zRt. applied its BSI KITEMARK-certified BIM working method, which supported discipline coordination and the transparency of the design processes.

The sports hall is not only the new home of handball in Tatabánya, but also an important venue for the city’s and the region’s sports, cultural and community life. Thanks to its location, it is connected to Tatabánya’s existing sports centre and is suitable for hosting regional, national and international events.
