Hard Rock Hotel Budapest
Hard Rock Hotel Budapest was developed at the corner of Nagymező Street and Ó Street on the former site of the Instant entertainment venue. The 136-room, five-star hotel became the first European property operated directly by Hard Rock Hotels and forms part of the cultural and tourism environment of central Budapest.
The historic façade facing Nagymező Street was retained and restored, with a contemporary hotel building constructed behind it. The transition between the historic and new elements is defined by an approximately 720-square-metre perforated metal façade wrapping the upper floors.
The pattern of this distinctive envelope was developed through parametric digital design. The dimensions and positions of its tens of thousands of individual openings respond to daylight, the use of the internal spaces and the overall architectural composition. Some of the metal pieces removed during fabrication were reused as partition elements in the guestrooms rather than being treated as waste.
In addition to the guestrooms, the building accommodates a restaurant, bar, Rock Shop, fitness area, event and conference facilities, and a rooftop venue. Music memorabilia associated with the Hard Rock brand is combined with contemporary interior design and references to the urban character of Budapest.
CÉH zRt. supported the investment through design-side project management and technical supervision. The work required coordinated delivery of the historic façade, new building structures, hotel technology, mechanical and electrical systems, and high-quality interior finishes.
The dense city-centre location, restricted construction area and proximity of neighbouring buildings also shaped the logistics of the project. Demolition, material handling, structural work and specialist fit-out activities had to be organised with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
