Pan-European Picnic Memorial Development Project

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the historical event that took place in August 1989, the Local Government of Sopron City with County Rights decided to develop the area in the Sopronpuszta region. Our task was also to create the initial concept, to prepare the planning application documents and the construction plan documentation. The construction of the complex started at the beginning of 2019, during which we also carried out design supervision tasks. The area houses a new visitor centre of 285 m2 floor area, operating subject to periodic opening hours, a “Time Gate” to demonstrate the moment of breaking through the border, and a “Timeline” that provides an image by “milestones” along the promenade of historically important years and events that led to the removal of the Iron Curtain and the demolition of the Berlin Wall.
