Gül baba türbéje 2.jpg

Gül Baba's türbe

Gül Baba, the Father of Roses, was a Bektashi dervish, a warrior Muslim monk, who arrived in Buda with the occupying Turkish army in 1541. According to legend, he died on September 2, 1541, during the thanksgiving celebration for the city's capture. A grand funeral was held in his honor, attended by Sultan Suleiman I himself, who, according to legend, joined the coffin bearers. The türbe (tomb) built over Gül Baba's grave was constructed between 1543 and 1548 by Mehmed Jahjapasazáde, the third Pasha of Buda. Since then, the site has been a pilgrimage destination for Muslims and a regular tourist spot for Turkish visitors. Our company provided technical consultancy for the project.
