Renovation of the Millenáris Exhibition and Event Center

The renovation of the Millenáris Exhibition and Event Centre was carried out as part of the “Reborn Millenáris” development concept. The project was connected to the transformation, modernisation and further design development of buildings B, C, C2, D and G at a cultural venue that is one of the key locations of Budapest’s community and event life.

The aim of the development was to ensure that the buildings of Millenáris, while retaining their existing functions, could provide a more modern, more flexible and technically more reliable environment for exhibitions, events and community programmes. The work involved historic industrial buildings, contemporary additions, support areas and visitor functions at the same time.

We participated in the project with further design development, project management and technical supervision services. Our role covered professional support for the design processes, coordination of implementation, review of technical content and monitoring of construction processes.

The professional complexity of the task came from the need to coordinate the renewal of several building parts with different conditions and functions. While preserving the historic industrial character, the buildings also had to meet today’s requirements for event technology, operation, visitor use and safety. In such an environment, one of the most important tasks of design and technical control is to bring existing values, new functions and the practical aspects of implementation into balance.

The renewal of Building G, the Reception Building, was one of the particularly visible elements of the development. During the transformation of the former industrial building with its large interior height, new event, support and mechanical areas were created, while the building continues to function as one of the key reception and event venues of Millenáris.

The value of the renovation lies in the fact that it did not replace the existing building stock of Millenáris, but developed it further. The project contributed to ensuring that the cultural centre created on the site of the former Ganz factory remains a usable, renewed and publicly accessible urban venue in the long term.
