Hankook House Employee Accommodation Complex

Hankook House is an employee accommodation complex developed near the Rácalmás plant of Hankook Tire Magyarország Kft., on the northern edge of Dunaújváros. The complex was extended in three phases in response to the growth of the factory and its workforce. The aim was to create a residential and communal environment offering a higher standard and greater long-term usability than conventional workers’ accommodation.

The first phase was completed in 2010 and comprised Wings A and B, with a total of 254 residential units. This stage established the basic structure of the complex as well as the communal and service functions required by employees working in a three-shift system.

The second phase followed in 2016. Wing C added 144 residential units, each designed for two occupants, increasing the capacity of the complex by 288 places. The layout of the units focused on independent use, adequate storage and the acoustic protection required for undisturbed rest.

The third phase added Wing D with a further 170 residential units. Following this extension, Hankook House can accommodate more than 1,100 employees. The design of the new wing also incorporated operational experience and feedback gathered from the earlier phases.

The complex operates around the clock as a largely self-contained community for residents working different shift patterns. Facilities include indoor and outdoor communal kitchens, lounges, television rooms, a gym, a buffet and a convenience store. The landscaped external areas provide gardens for relaxation, lawns for events, and sports courts with artificial-turf and rubber surfaces.

The rooms were designed to allow employees working either daytime or night shifts to rest without disturbance. Their functional arrangement and the high level of acoustic separation between the different parts of the building support this requirement.

Across the three phases, CÉH zRt. provided building design, project management and technical supervision services. The long-term commission required not only the effective operation of each individual wing but also the development of a coherent architectural and technical system for the continuously expanding complex.
