Péterfy Sándor Street Hospital and Outpatient Clinic II.
Design for the Reconstruction of the Alsó erdősor Satellite Hospital
In the 1890s, the municipal poorhouse operated on Alsó erdősor, known as the “Erzsébet Poorhouse”, or Erzsébet Almshouse. The building was constructed based on the designs of architect József Hild, under the direction of master builder János Wagner. By the end of the 19th century, internal medicine, surgical and psychiatric departments had begun operating in the building. From 1942, it functioned as the Public Hospital of Budapest. In 1950, it took on the name Korányi Sándor and Frigyes Hospital, and from 1991 it once again became known as Erzsébet Hospital. By the middle of the 20th century, the institution had already become widely known as Péterfy Sándor Street Hospital.
The Alsó erdősor hospital operates as a satellite hospital of Péterfy Sándor Street Hospital and Outpatient Clinic, with nursing care and psychiatric departments forming its core functions. The building complex was designed in line with the standard solutions of its time, resulting in wards with a high number of beds and exceptionally generous ceiling heights.

The greatest design challenge of the reconstruction was to create wards with fewer beds within the constraints of the large interior spaces, while also developing technical solutions for modern heating and lighting systems despite the considerable ceiling height.
During the design process, a 3D digital model created with the help of 3D scanning supported the development of an appropriately high standard of patient care services.
The building is under historic protection, therefore sustainability requirements could only be implemented to a limited extent due to façade-related and townscape considerations.
