SMP Automotive Bumper Plant and Warehouse

The SMP plant in Kecskemét was developed as a greenfield automotive investment in the immediate vicinity of the Mercedes-Benz factory. The 56,000-square-metre complex combines manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, office and staff functions.

The facility supports the manufacture of exterior and interior automotive plastic components, including bumpers and instrument-panel elements. Its location enables direct and efficient supply to vehicle production in Kecskemét while also supporting deliveries to other automotive customers.

The buildings serving the production processes had to accommodate manufacturing equipment, the movement of raw materials and finished products, storage, quality control and maintenance routes within a coherent operational system.

CÉH zRt. contributed building design, project management and technical supervision services. The design required production-technology needs to be coordinated with the building structures, mechanical and electrical systems, fire protection and site infrastructure.

Project management supported cooperation between the client, designers, contractors and technology suppliers. It was particularly important to align the building works, installation of production equipment and activities required for operational start-up within a coordinated schedule.

Through technical supervision, CÉH zRt. monitored compliance with the design and specified technical content, the quality of installed structures and systems, and the interfaces between the different construction disciplines.

By shortening supply routes and locating production close to the vehicle manufacturer, the plant strengthens the operation of the automotive cluster in Kecskemét. At the time the investment was announced, it was expected to create approximately five hundred new jobs.
