Bridgestone Tyre Plant, Phases I–II
The Bridgestone tyre plant in Tatabánya-Környe is one of the major industrial developments of the Japanese company’s tyre production capacity in Hungary. The plant, expanded in several phases, was designed to bring passenger car, SUV and light truck tyre production, related warehousing and operational support functions together in a well-organised, high-capacity industrial system.
The main building was designed as an almost 550-metre-long production hall, with a precast reinforced concrete structure and lightweight façade cladding. The building accommodates several interconnected functions, from raw material storage, material preparation and production technology processes to vulcanisation, finished goods storage and dispatch. Office, welfare, changing-room, gatehouse and technology support buildings were also connected to the main building.
We participated in the project with building design, project management and technical supervision services. Our work covered the design of the industrial buildings and support functions, the coordination of implementation processes, the review of technical content and the professional control of construction.
The complexity of the development came from the fact that production, warehousing, internal logistics, office and welfare functions, as well as technology support systems, had to be connected within a closed building block that could be expanded in the long term. In an industrial plant of this scale, design and technical control must take into account the rhythm of production processes, operational safety, maintainability and the possibility of future capacity expansion at the same time.
The Tatabánya-Környe plant development started as the first major industrial facility in a long-term cooperation, followed by further production phases and additional developments. The investment contributed to making Bridgestone’s Hungarian plant one of the company’s significant European production bases, while strengthening the industrial and automotive supplier role of the region.
