Gold Plaza

Gold Plaza was developed as the first modern shopping and entertainment centre in Baia Mare, Romania. The 60,000-square-metre building brings together retail, hospitality, entertainment and parking functions in a high-traffic public facility close to the city centre.

The shopping centre includes several retail levels, a large food store, a multiplex cinema, restaurant and community areas, as well as an underground garage. In a building of this kind, visitor comfort, tenant requirements, internal circulation and a reliable technical background are closely interconnected.

We participated in the project with building design services as building services designers. Our task was to prepare the building permit, tender and construction design documentation for the heating, cooling and ventilation systems.

The professional focus of the design task came from the need to handle the different comfort and operational requirements of a large-scale shopping centre with multiple functions within one coherent building services system. Retail units, circulation areas, hospitality spaces, cinema areas and support functions all require different ventilation and thermal conditions, while the system also has to operate reliably in everyday use.

Gold Plaza’s building services design was connected to an international retail development where the quality of the technical systems directly affects visitor experience, tenant usability and the long-term operation of the building.
