Modernisation of SPAR and INTERSPAR Stores

Between 2016 and 2024, CÉH zRt. participated in the modernisation of seven SPAR and INTERSPAR stores. The projects were located in Pesterzsébet, Kispest, Miskolc, Dunaújváros, Pécs, Óbuda and Székesfehérvár.

The developments renewed the internal spaces, customer circulation routes, sales areas and technical systems of the stores. New retail equipment, more clearly organised departments, and materials and colours aligned with the updated SPAR concept were introduced.

Particular attention was paid to improving energy efficiency and applying environmentally responsible technologies. Cost-efficient lighting systems with lower energy consumption and advanced refrigeration solutions were introduced. The interiors were refurbished using natural materials, with the involvement of Hungarian and international specialists. At several locations, training and education rooms were also created for employees.

The reconstruction of the INTERSPAR store in Pesterzsébet was one of the largest elements of the programme. Approximately 3,500 square metres of sales space was renewed within the building of almost 6,000 square metres. The fresh-food, bakery, delicatessen, beauty and household departments were reorganised, and new information and customer-service functions were introduced.

The works were organised according to the operating conditions of each store. Some locations were fully closed during construction, while others remained open and were refurbished in phases. At operational stores, customer and delivery routes, construction areas and safe day-to-day operation had to be continuously coordinated.

The Project Management Office of CÉH zRt. supported the developments through project management and technical supervision. Our responsibilities covered the coordination of design and construction, monitoring of schedules and technical content, and control of construction quality.

Working in buildings with different conditions across several cities required the common retail and technical standards to be adapted to the existing structures, systems and operational requirements of each location.
