Városmajor Development Study
Transport study documentation identifying the transport characteristics of Városmajor and its surroundings as part of the Buda Green Corridor, and formulating proposals to improve and humanise its traffic connections.
Government Resolution No. 1690/2019 (XII. 10.) set the renewal of the capital’s continuous green areas, which play an important role in Budapest’s everyday life, as a key objective. As a first step towards this goal, the planning task was to prepare and conceptually establish the renewal of Városmajor.
Based on the survey, recording and analysis of the existing conditions, recommendations were prepared for green space and transport issues, including the organisation and development of pedestrian, bicycle, road and parking connections.
The significance of the study lay in the fact that it examined Városmajor not as an isolated park, but as part of the Buda Green Corridor. This green axis, connecting Városmajor, Vérmező, Tabán and Gellért Hill, plays an important urban structural and ecological role in Buda.
We participated in the project with engineering consultancy and transport study planning services. Our work covered the interpretation of the existing transport situation, the examination of pedestrian, bicycle, road and parking connections, and the professional groundwork for development opportunities.
The development objectives also included increasing green space, renewing the park’s infrastructure, reorganising community spaces and reducing vehicle pressure on the public park. The transport proposals should therefore be understood not as standalone interventions, but as measures supporting the park’s liveability, safer accessibility and long-term usability.
The completed documentation served as the basis for the design competition successfully launched the following year.
