Rehabilitation of the Zagyva Bridge on the Szolnok–Szajol railway line
The rehabilitation of the two-span, lower-deck steel truss railway bridge crossing the Zagyva River, originally opened to traffic in 1947, was carried out on a double-track, standard-gauge, electrified railway line. Our scope included the preparation of the permitting and detailed design documentation for the refurbishment of the bridge structure, while retaining the existing steel truss main girders and reinforced concrete abutments.
The design focused on the reconstruction and modernization of the timber track structure, the implementation of a ballastless track with grooved rails to allow for increased railway operating speeds, the complete renewal of the corrosion protection system, and the design of new maintenance walkways. Special emphasis was placed on reducing environmental impacts through the application of a low-noise GREEN-BRIDGE deck system, while maintaining partial railway traffic throughout construction.
